Buddy has a 92 YJ that is eating calipers. Has happened on both the front brakes at different times. Replaced them and now the front left just did it again. The caliper is locked up??? I thought it might be the proportioning valve but that just controls front to back right? I'm baffled, any help would be appreciated.

As an aside, I was an old Parts Mike poster from years ago and I still have my 93 YJ with 267,000 miles on it!! This is the first place I came to when he told me about his problem.

id get them, especially if in a warm climate... the rubber lines flex, expand, crack, and become brittle. full brakes are on my list of mods before I go back to college since I will not have the disposable income that my job provides... need longevity, and dependability... and the stock lines any brand are not that.

If I understand correctly your buddy's brake pads are being eaten. Have you looked at the rotors? I had a similar problem on my truck and the rotors were warped. The uneven surface on the rotor was eating my pads. I would have that looked at. If you have looked at this idea already then I have no clue. Hope it helps.

If you have a master cylinder that is not a disc brake unit or if the lines have been crossed front - rear, the fluid can not return to master cylinder causing the brakes to remain "on". Drum brakes require a residual valve that keeps pressure against the wheel cylinder, disc brakes have no residual valve. The master cylinder rod if adjustable could be too long, this will not allow the return holes in the master cylinder plunger to align, thus keeping pressure on the brakes. The front calipers will not fully release in this case.
