Heim Joint Steering Kit with 5/8" Bolt Hole.

Heim joint steering kit with a 5/8” through bolt.  If you’re going to use Heim joints for your steering, this is the kit you should be using.  We use premium PTFE (aka Teflon™) Heim joints, not the budget version with injection molded nylon.  Our 100% Teflon™ lined Heim joints are tight unlike the nylon version, and stay tight over time.  This keeps your steering tight, and it stays that way longer.

Our kits use 7/8” x 3/4” chromoly Heim joints with stainless steel misalignment spacers.  The 7/8” shank and housing provide increased strength over the 3/4” x 3/4” version.  The reason we don’t use a 7/8” x 7/8” Heim joint is when you use the larger through hole size, you don’t get as much angle.  Basically we use the best combination of sizing in the Heim joint world to provide the most strength and angle available.  When you couple the correct sizing with the best design, you end up with the best Heim joint steering for your vehicle. 

We also include the serrated Belleville lock washers to go between the jam nut and the tube insert.  These units are serrated, made of spring metal, and have a cone shape.  When you tighten them they flatten out, and create a mechanical lock between the tube inserts and jam nuts to keep the jam nuts from coming loose.

The only thing not included in this kit are the bolts.  We would include these, but different thicknesses in the parts that you’re installing into the steering doesn’t allow for proper fitment.  For the best possible set up use Grade 8 fine thread bolts (5/8”-18 TPI), and Stover/top lock nuts. 

·         Grade 8 (six dashes on the bolt head) will give you increased strength over grade 5 (3 dashes on the bolt head). 

·         The fine thread (18 threads per inch vs 11 threads per inch) will reduce the likelihood of the bolts coming loose. 

·         Top lock nuts are slightly crushed.  The easiest most convenient thing to find are nyloc nuts, but these are NOT Stover nuts (see attached picture).  The nylon in a nyloc nut will fatigue over time, and eventually fall out.  It’s plastic, and WILL fail.  The Stover nut is all steel, and uses a deformed top to create a mechanical lock.  This means it will not come loose, AND will not fail due to age like a nyloc nut will.  You do NOT want something failing on your steering.

 

Note: Welding required. Tube adapter's need to be welded to the DOM tubing.
