When determining the length of tubing that you need for the tie rod sleeve and or drag link sleeve, take into account the amount of thread contact. The general rule of thumb for thread contact for a steel sleeve is 1-1.5 times the diameter of the thread. Aluminum sleeves require 2 x the thread diameter for thread contact. Since this kit is uses steel components, we can use 1-1.5 times the thread diameter. Let's go with more thread contact and choose the ratio of 1.5. The ratio would be 1.5 x .875" = 1.312" of thread contact.
For Steel: (Thread Diameter x 1-1.5 = Amount of thread contact.)
Features and Benefits:
This is one of the best hiem joint kits you’ll find on the market today. It combines many features you won’t find elsewhere. You don’t want to settle for second, third, or even last place when it comes to your steering! Review the features, then decide if you want to save a few bucks, or get the best.
- We use ultra high quality hiem joints. These are chromoly hiem joints, and have a 100% PTFE liner (not nylon). What this means is that the main staple of your steering is not only tighter, but lasts longer. If you don’t buy the kit, at least buy one and feel it. You’ll buy the rest of the kit for sure!
- Stainless steel high misalignment spacers. Made to exacting standards, you don’t get the same thing everywhere you buy. Have you ever had the lip of the spacer break? It was probably because it wasn’t made correctly for the hiem, the center pieces didn’t touch in the middle when tightened, so all the load was just on the lip! We hold tolerances that other companies don’t even know about, and you never experience the failures. It’s the Parts Mike way.
- Jam nuts, Belleville lock washers and tube inserts that work in unison. We sell our hiem joints with jam nuts because they should be replaced when you change them. This wasn’t traditionally the case because the hiem joint would wear out so fast LOL! You’ll also receive a Belleville lock washer that you may not have seen before. It’s made from spring metal, and is serrated on both sides. When you tighten it between the jam nut and the tube insert, the spring metal flattens and the serrated edges dig in locking the system together. What you end up with is something that lasts, stays tight, and you can forget about it. Be sure to use Never-Seez on the threads! These will last so long you’ll have a hard time getting them out of the tube.
